This site aims to introduce Turkic mythology to the general public. Often overlooked in the West, this ancient tradition deserves to be explored and preserved. Our goal is to make this knowledge accessible in French, Turkish and English, in a clear and documented manner.
Why Turkic mythology?
Turkic mythology encompasses the beliefs, legends and cosmologies of Turkic-speaking peoples, from the steppes of Central Asia to Anatolia. It revolves around Tengrism, a worldview where the Sky (Tengri) and the Earth (Yer) form a sacred balance.
These narratives have shaped the identity of many peoples throughout history: Huns, Göktürks, Uyghurs, Seljuks, Ottomans and modern Turkic nations. Understanding this mythology means understanding an essential part of Eurasian history.

Sources and methodology
The content of this site is based on recognized historical and academic sources:
- The Orkhon inscriptions (8th century), the first texts in Old Turkic
- The Book of Dede Korkut, a 15th century Oghuz epic
- Works by ethnologists and historians (Jean-Paul Roux, Peter Golden, etc.)
- Shamanic narratives collected in Siberia and Central Asia
